Social Accountability for Weight Loss-Mrs. New Booty #2

"Mrs. New Booty" is a blog series I started to document my weight loss journey.

Written on May 23rd

I really wasn't in the mood to exercise this morning.

I was pumped for my morning jog last night, though.  I downloaded my podcasts (Ratchet & the Geek and The Read), pulled out my workout gear and set my alarm.

I woke up early, ate a banana, drank a cup of tea and played on YouTube for an hour.

The struggle is real .

When Jason got up, he asked about my jog. When I told him I didn't go, he suggested we go on a walk.

We walked 2 miles and I munched on some rabbit food....

I make better food choices when I exercise.

Social accountability got me moving! If you're trying to lose a few pounds, ask someone you trust to keep you in line.

Later this week, I will talk about setting a weekly workout schedule.

Get Your Kids to Drink MORE Water

Plain water can be so boring for kids, so I purchased a beverage dispenser to encourage the boys to drink more of it. I infuse the water with fresh fruit, cucumber and/or mint to make it naturally sweet and refreshing.

Pineapple Infused Water

Pineapple Infused Water

They're really enjoying the infused water!

I made a video showing 3 infused water combinations.  I usually steep our fruit/cucumbers for at least an hour before we start drinking the water.

1st water- 1 cucumber & 1 lemon with 1 1/2 gallons of water

2nd water-6-7 strawberries & 4-5 mint leaves with 1 1/2 gallons of water

3rd water-1/2 pineapple with 1 1/2 gallons of water

I found my dispenser at the grocery store (it was $17), but any big box store should have them.

Do you drink infused water? What's your favorite combination?

Zaalouk Recipe

platedzaafeb2012.jpg

On the same day Lisa and I recorded the Asian tofu salad video, she made us zaalouk--one of her favorite Moroccan dishes.  Like a lot of other wonderful cooks, Lisa isn't one to measure her spices and other ingredients.  She relies heavily on color, taste, texture and smell to guide her in the kitchen.

Being that I was working on my 2nd glass of wine, I failed to take notes myself. #thestruggle

Anyway, I didn't want to leave this post with just pictures, so here's a list of all the ingredients Lisa used in her recipe:

1 large eggplant

Diced tomatoes, canned

Olive oil

Garlic, minced

Dried parsley

Cumin

Paprika

Salt

Pepper

Vinegar (red wine or champagne)  or lemon juice or sumac  (something acidic)

Saute aromatics in olive oil, then cook everything until soft, and mash it up with a potato masher.

Drizzle olive oil on top.

Eat with pita bread scooping the zaalouk in with your fingers--in true Moccorran style.

Have a great weekend!
